Move Ya Body

Last time I talked about my fitness journey, it was in the middle of quarantine. So what have I been doing?! Let’s jump in!

Let’s be real, getting ready to go to the gym can already be a struggle, so working out at home? Forget about it!

It is so easy to put off working out when you’re forced to stay home and don’t have access to a gym, unless you have a home gym or garage gym (lucky!).

I was really hoping at the start of 2020 I would get back to the physical level I was at 3 years ago. I was at the gym 5 days a week, twice a day 2-3 times a week, eating clean, competed in a CrossFit competition, and was ready for more!

Well, if you read any of my previous posts, you know I fell into a dark place a year later (2018). Which led to going out more and more, drinking, eating junk food that was not good for me, fell out of love with the gym, and working at a job I did not enjoy at all.

I wasn’t happy with myself. I wasn’t as confident as I used to be. It was time for a change.

So fast forward two years and I’m finally getting back to that person again!

I became a nanny for a family who my family is friends with in the Bay Area, so I’m back and forth from Sac to the Bay.

I must say, it has helped more than I thought it ever could.

I found a CrossFit gym and personal trainer in the bay area that are so supportive, motivating, and just push me to be my best. Even when I don’t feel it.

I started eating cleaner, weekends home are a little different, but I’ve managed to discipline myself better than I thought.

Not only has my life changed physically, but mentally too!

Now, I’m not saying I hate Sac or living at home, but when you notice your mentality and mood change (for the better), you know something wasn’t right before.

I’m so grateful to have a place to call home, but it’s nice to be away. And that’s okay! (Mom, don’t take it personal!)

In just the past six months, I’ve learned more about myself and life than I have in the 25 years I’ve been alive – weird!

I’ve learned when life happens, you have to just keep moving. Time doesn’t just stop because something horrible happened.

You can be upset over it, you can take a few days, weeks, months, hell, maybe even years to feel however you want to feel.

* Don’t let anyone tell you how to feel over something only you are going through. You’re the one healing. Not them.

But, when life knocks you down, you need to keep moving. I don’t mean move on. I mean move your body. Whether that’s taking a walk every day, going for a run, working out, doing some yoga, even meditating, whatever you enjoy, do it.

* I’m starting a challenge for everyone – do 20 air squats every single day. If you record it, tag me on

That is the only way to help keep your mind fresh and not focused on just the negative. When we focus on just the negative, that is when things get dark.

Know that there is always someone willing to listen and help. It may not seem like it, but there is.

Find someone who will push you to be the best you can be and help you overcome the hurdles in life, whether it’s a friend, mentor, family member, trainer, etc.!

I’ve noticed, my trainer’s noticed, and my mom has noticed how much my mood has changed just because of one thing – moving my body – pushing it to that level I know I can handle.

I may not be at my goal just yet, but I’m hell of a lot closer than I was a year ago, even six months ago.

I’m so much happier now than I have been in the past two years.
